Juxtamusium natans, Philippi 1845
And here it is, an inflated near carbon black shell of circular shape, surprisingly delicate for such a large size and considering that it comes from icy waters of southernmost Argentina, this gorgeous beauty was dived in 15m depth by a dedicated naturalist; for me this is one of the most noble members of the family not only due to its habitat but also because this is a rather long living scallop which does not reproduce until several years old and has an estimated life span that exceeds 20 years. Fortunately it is now protected and fishery is banned so it gets a chance to recuperate in this remote and less studied habitat.
